部屋に入れ近くに寄って気が付いたが、白羽さんからは、浮浪者のような臭いがした。とりあえず風呂に入るように言い、バスタオルを押し付けて無失理風呂場のドアを閉めた。中からシャうーの音が聞こえはじめ、ほっと息をついた。
白羽さんのシャワーは長く、持っているうちに眠ってしまいそうだった。私はふと思いついて、妹に電話をした。
「もしもし？」
妹の声だ。まだギリギリ日付は変わっておらず、妹は起きていたようだった。
「夜遅くごめんね。悠太郎くんは平気？」
「うん、大丈夫、悠太郎くん寝てて、のんびりしてたとこ。どうしたの？」
妹と同じ家の中で寝ているだろう、甥っ子の姿が頭に浮かんだ。妹の人生は進んでる。何しろ、この前まではいなかった浮ものがそこにいるのだ。妹も、母のように私の人生も変化を求めているのだろうか。私は実験するような気持ちで、妹に打ち上げた。
「夜中に電話していうほどのことじゃないんだけど。。。あのね。実は、今、家に男性がいるんだ。」

When he entered the room and came closer, he noticed that Shiraha-san had a smell like a homeless person.

He told him to take a bath for the time being and handed him a bath towel, then closed the door to the bathroom without waiting for a response.
