トラブルが起きた場合は、迅速に社員に対応を任せることになっている。そのルールに従って、私は急いで制服に着替え終え、レジへと向かった。店長お願いしますと言ってレジを代わると「うわ動かった、ありがとう！」と小さない声で店長が言い、すぐにカウンターの外に走って行き、男性客と若者の間に急いで入った。私は宅配便の控えをお客様に渡しながら、店内で殴り合いにならないか横目で見ていた。そういう時は、すぐに防犯べルを鳴らすことになっている。
やがて、店長がうまく対応したらしく、中年の男性は何かをぶつぶつ言いながら店を出て行った。
ほっとした空気が流れ、店内は元の通常の朝の空気に戻った。
ここは強制的に正常化される場所なのだ。異物はすぐに排除される。さっきまで、店を満たしていた不穏な空気は払拭され、店内の客は何事もなかったように、いつものパンやコーヒーを買うことに集中し始めた。
「いや、ありがとう助かったよ古倉さん」
行列が収まってバックルームに戻ると、店長が言った。」
「いえ、トラブルにならなくてよかったです！」

「いや、ありがとう助かったよ古倉さん」 "No, thank you, you really helped, Ms. Furukura," the store manager said as we returned to the back room.
「いえ、トラブルにならなくてよかったです！」 "No problem, I'm just glad it didn't turn into a big issue!"
