「前もっていってくれないと、結局しわ寄せが他のバイトにくるだけじゃないですか！」
二人が感情豊かに会話をしているを聞いてると、少し焦りが生まれる。私の身体の中に、怒りという感情はほとんどない。人が感じって困ったなあと思うだけだ。私は菅原さんの表情を盗み見て、トレーニング時にそうしたように、顔の同じ場所の筋肉を動かして喋ってみた。
「えーまたバックレですかあ。今人手不足なのに、信じられないです！」
菅原さんの言葉を操り返す私に、泉さんが時計と指輪を外しながら笑った。
「はは、古倉さんめっちゃ怒ってる！そうだよねーほんとありとくないよー」
同じことで怒ると、店員の皆がうれしそうな顔をするときが付いたのは、アルバイを始めてすぐのことだった。店長がムカつくとか、夜勤の誰それがサポってるとか、怒りが特ち上がった時に協調すると、不思議な連帯感が生まれて、皆が私の怒りを喜んでくれる。
泉さんと菅原さんの表情を見て、ああ、私は今、上手に「人間」ができてるんだと安堵する。この安堵を、コンビニエンスストアという場所で、何度操り返しただろうか。
