白羽さんは私の面接先まで送るという。面接が終わるまで外で持っていると意気んでいた。
外に出ると、もうすっかり夏の空気だった。
電車に乗って面接先へ向かう。電車に乗るのも久しぶりだった。
「少し早く着き過ぎましたね。まだ１時間以上ある」
「そうですか」
「あ、僕ちょっとトイレに行ってきます。ここで持っていてください」
白羽さんがそう言い残して歩き出した。公衆トイレなどあるだろうかと思ったら、白羽さんが向かっていったのはコンビニだった。
私もトイレに行っておこうかと、白羽さんを追いかけてコンビニに入った。自動ドアが開いた瞬間、懐かしいチャイムの音が聞こえた。
「いらっしゃいませ！」
私の方を見て、レジの中の女の子が声を振り上げた。
コンビニの中には行列ができていた。時計を見ると、もうすぐ１２時になろうというころだった。ちょうど昼ピークが始まる時間だ。
レジの中には、若い女の子が二人だけしかおらず、一人は「研修中」のバッジを（１５４）つけているようだった。

Shiraha-san offered to take me to my interview. He seemed determined to wait outside until the interview was over.
外に出ると、もうすっかり夏の空気だった。
When we stepped outside, it was already the full-fledged summer air.
電車に乗って面接先へ向かう。電車に乗るのも久しぶりだった。
「少し早く着き過ぎましたね。まだ１時間以上ある」
We took the train to head to the interview location. It had been a long time since I had been on a train.
"We arrived a bit early, didn't we? There's still over an hour left."
「そうですか」
「あ、僕ちょっとトイレに行ってきます。ここで持っていてください」
"Is that so?"
"Oh, I'll go to the restroom for a moment. Please wait here."
白羽さんがそう言い残して歩き出した。公衆トイレなどあるだろうかと思ったら、白羽さんが向かっていったのはコンビニだった。
私もトイレに行っておこうかと、白羽さんを追いかけてコンビニに入った。自動ドアが開いた瞬間、懐かしいチャイムの音が聞こえた。
Shiraha-san said that and walked away. I wondered if there would be a public restroom nearby, but Shiraha-san headed towards a convenience store.
Thinking I might as well use the restroom, I followed Shiraha-san into the convenience store. As the automatic door opened, I heard the familiar chime.
「いらっしゃいませ！」

"Welcome!"
A young girl at the cash register looked at me and greeted me.
コンビニの中には行列ができていた。時計を見ると、もうすぐ１２時になろうというころだった。ちょうど昼ピークが始まる時間だ。

Inside the convenience store, there was a line forming. When I checked the time, it was almost noon. It was exactly the time when the lunchtime rush was starting.
Inside the register area, there were only two young girls, and one of them seemed to be wearing a "trainee" badge.
