部屋に立てかけた鏡を見ると、うっすらと髭が生えていた。
毎日通っていたコインシャワーにも、三日に一度、白羽さんに言われて渋々行くだけになっていた。
全てを、コンビニにとって合理的がどうかで判断していた私は、基準を失った状態だった。この行動が合理的か否か、何を目印に決めればいいのかわからなかった。店員になる前だって、私は合理的かどうかに従って判断していたはずなのに、そのころの自分が何を指針にしていたのか、忘れてしまったいた。
不意に電子音が流れ、振り向くと畳の上で白羽さんの携帯が鳴っていた。どうやなら、置いたまま出かけたらしい。そのまま放置しようかと思ったが、呼び出し音はなかなか鳴りやまなかった。
何か緊急の用事だろうかと画面を見ると、「鬼嫁」と表示ていた。直感で「通話」をダッチすると、案の定、白羽さんの弟の奥さんの怒鳴り声がした。
「お義兄さん、何回電話させたら気が済むんですか？居場所はわかってるんですからね、押しかけますよ！」
「あの、こんにちは、古倉です」
電話に出たのが私だとわかると、白羽さんの義妹は「あ、あなたですか』と即座に冷静な声になった。

I had been evaluating everything based on whether it was rational for the convenience store, but I was now in a state of losing my criteria. 「あの、こんにちは、古倉です」
"Uh, hello, this is Furukura," I answered the phone.
電話に出たのが私だとわかると、白羽さんの義妹は「あ、あなたですか』と即座に冷静な声になった。As soon as she realized it was me who answered the phone, Shiraha-san's sister-in-law immediately adopted a composed tone and said, 'Oh, it's you, huh?'
